Het internationaal poëziesalon op vers vuur
In samenwerking met het Poëziecentrum gaat vers vuur op de internationale tour. We verwelkomen tijdens het internationaal Poëziesalon vier gerenommeerde dichters uit Italië (Laura Accerboni), Macedonië (Nikola Madzirov), Spanje (Violeta Gil) en het Verenigd Koninkrijk (Kayo Chingonyi). Zij gaan in gesprek met twee Vlaamse auteurs, de Antwerpse stadsdichter Esohe Weyden en Tijl Nuyts. Tussen alle woorden door maak je kennis met Frans Kalf en word je meegenomen naar zijn muzikale, cynisch vrolijke wereld. De voertaal van dit festival onderdeel is Engels.
Dit programma is verbonden aan Versopolis, een Europees poëzie platform in 36 landen dat jong dichterstalent ondersteunt. Daarnaast maakt Poetry Unbound deel uit van de avond. In dit project, waarin Laura Accerboni en Nikola Madzirov centraal staan, wordt onderzocht hoe de publieke ruimte een nieuw publicatie domein kan worden en poëzie met de stad kan verweven. Hun werk, dat tijdens het festival voor het eerst te horen zal zijn, krijgt na vers vuur een plek in het straatbeeld.

Kayo Chingonyi FRSL was born in Zambia in 1987, and moved to the UK at the age of six. In 2012, he was awarded a Geoffrey Dearmer Prize and was Associate Poet at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) in 2015. His first full-length collection, Kumukanda, won the Dylan Thomas Prize and a Somerset Maugham Award. Kayo was a Burgess Fellow at the Centre for New Writing, University of Manchester before joining Durham University as Assistant Professor of Creative Writing. He was a writer and presenter for the music and culture podcast Decode on Spotify, is poetry editor at Bloomsbury, and his most recent collection A Blood Condition was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best Collection, the T.S. Eliot Prize, and the Costa Poetry Award. He was elected a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2022.

Violeta Gil was born in Hoyuelos (Spain) in 1983. She is a scenic creator and a writer. She got her BA in English at Complutense University and her BA in Theatre Studies at the Royal Drama School, both in Madrid. In 2004 she co-funded her theatre company La tristura, together they have created nine pieces, performed at a national and international level. She got her MFA in Creative Writing at the University of Iowa. Her poetry is published by Arrebato and her fiction by Caballo de Troya. Así hablábamos was her last work at the National Dramatic Centre in 2024. A new poetry book, Andábamos maravillados, is forthcoming in September 2025band she is currently working on her second novel and her first collection of essays.

Nikola Madžirov (poet, essayist, translator) was born in 1973 in Strumica, in the family of war refugees from the Balkan Wars. His poems and essays are translated into more than forty languages. For the book Relocated Stone (2007) was given the international Hubert Burda poetry award for writers born in East Europe and the most prestigious Macedonian poetry award Miladinov Brothers at Struga Poetry Evenings. Other recognitions include Studentski Zbor award for best poetry debut and Xu Zhimo Silver Leaf award for European poetry at King’s College, Cambridge in UK. He was granted several international fellowships: IWP at the University of Iowa, Yaddo and MacDowell in USA; DAAD in Berlin; Marguerite Yourcenar in France, Passa Porta in Brussels or Civitella Ranieri in Italy. Tijl Nuyts (1993) is dichter, essayist, verhalenverteller en eindredacteur poëzie van het literaire tijdschrift Kluger Hans. In 2017 werd zijn poëziedebuut Anagrammen van een blote keizer (Uitgeverij Polis, 2017) genomineerd voor de C. Buddingh’prijs. Zijn tweede bundel, Vervoersbewijzen (2021) werd genomineerd voor de shortlist van De Grote Poëzie Prijs 2022 en werd bovendien bekroond met de Herman de Coninckprijs 2022. Tijl publiceerde zijn gedichten en kortverhalen onder andere in Tirade, De Gids, Deus Ex Machina, DW B en Het Liegend Konijn.
